What is a Community Impact Grant?

United Way of Dickinson, Inc. Community Impact Grants are how we invest local dollars in our communities to address specific community centered issues. Funding decisions are made through a competitive application process. Our Community Impact Grants are invested in high performing nonprofit organizations that provide local programs and services aligned with our three strategic priority areas of Education, Financial Stability and Health. Awardees help to improve community conditions across our regional footprint in Stark, Dunn, and Billings Counties.
  • Partners must be locally based, 501c (3) nonprofit organizations, providing local services in the counties we serve. Partners must meet the following criteria to be considered for funding:

    1. Be a 501(c)(3) non-profit and be a North Dakota registered charity.
    2. Be directed by a volunteer governing body with an organizational structure to administer programs.
    3. Account for funds in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
    4. Conduct an independent annual audit if revenue is $300,000 or more … conduct a financial review if revenue is below $300,000.
    5. Provide health and human services in the United Way of Dickinson catchment area
    6. Operate without discrimination.
    7. Have been in business for a minimum of 3 years.

    As a nonprofit partner of United Way of Dickinson, Inc., you have access to funding opportunities, resources for outreach and promotion, and learning opportunities to help you support your mission, garner new advocates and increase your effectiveness in our community.

    REVIEW CRITERIA

    The following criteria will be used in reviewing Impact Grant requests:

    1. Application including all accountability documents
    2. Site Visit (if applicable)
    3. Panel Presentation (once your application is completed you will receive an email regarding the scheduling of the presentation)
    4. Alignment with United Way of Dickinson, Inc. priority needs areas
    5. Collaboration with other organizations
    6. Program Impact
    7. Program Outcomes
    8. Budget – Use of funds

    This information is collected to determine the outcomes of previous year grant dollars.
